My name is Evan Guthrie, and I grew up in the Okanagan Valley. Currently I live in Peachland, BC. From a young age I was quite the handful; boundless energy and general hooliganism kept my parents racing after me. Riding bikes started with training wheels while I chased my dad around a picnic table in the back yard. Finally, by the age of 12, I took part in a race and finished dead last but had a smile and absolutely loved it. As a young teen, wearing spandex and riding uphill wasn’t the “cool” thing to do. I dabbled in dirt jumping and downhill, and from that my cross country racing career took off. Riding was not the only sport in my life, I partook in many sports from a young age such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country running, and rugby, but biking has been the only one I can’t get enough of.

After cross country racing took hold I raced in BC for a few years before I entered the Junior 17-18 year old category and began racing in World Cups and World Championship races. In those early years I became a 4 time National Champion in cross country mountain biking and cyclocross by the age of 18. From this point on, I’ve been pursuing an Olympic dream and since 2008 I’ve been a member of the National Team.

Through all of this my family has been instrumental. I have an incredible amount of support that allows this journey. Having my dad chase me around that picnic table as a kid helped start the dream. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey – I cherish this support.
